Pictures courtesy of Amarin Police have arrested a 36-year-old Myanmar national accused of strangling and stabbing his wife to death after she refused his attempt at reconciliation, ending a two-day manhunt that stretched from Bangkok to Prachuap Khiri Khan province. The suspect was detained on 22 January following an intensive search involving surveillance footage, local authorities, police dogs and drones. He now faces a charge of intentional murder and is being transferred to Bangkok for prosecution. The case stems from a fatal incident discovered on 21 January, when officers from Samae Dam Police Station were alerted to the body of a young woman found inside a rented room in Bang Khun Thian district, Bangkok. The victim was identified as Ms Q Q Wai, a 27-year-old Myanmar national, who was found lying on her back on the floor, partially covered with a pink blanket. She was wearing an orange short-sleeved shirt and a red patterned sarong. An examination of the scene revealed three stab wounds to her abdomen caused by a screwdriver, along with clear marks of strangulation around her neck. A large screwdriver was found nearby. The killing occurred in a rented room at 12/1, Room 20, Soi Sakmongkolchai 2, Samae Dam subdistrict, Bang Khun Thian, Bangkok. Investigators identified the prime suspect as her husband, Mr Kyaw Min Naing, also known as Jo Min Nai, aged 36, a Myanmar national. Police believe he had gone to the room to ask for reconciliation, but an argument escalated after the victim refused, leading to the fatal attack before he fled the scene. On 22 January at 12.30pm, senior officers including Pol Maj Gen Phallop Areamlulla, Pol Maj Gen Samart Phromchat, Pol Col Thirachai Detkhat, Pol Col Thitipong Siya and Pol Col Trairat Pengnoo announced the arrest. Mr Kyaw Min Naing was captured at a workers’ residence at Boonsom Farm in Silalai subdistrict, Pran Buri district, Prachuap Khiri Khan, under a Thonburi Criminal Court warrant No. 68/2569 dated 22 January. Police said the suspect fled by taxi to Samut Sakhon, changed clothes at a friend’s house, then travelled by bus towards Prachuap Khiri Khan intending to seek refuge with his former in-laws. After being turned away, he hid in a sugarcane field before being located and arrested. Amarin reported that he was initially taken to Sam Roi Yot Police Station before being transferred to Samae Dam Police Station for questioning. The suspect was handed to investigators and brought before the court for pre-trial detention.
